So what do we have here?
Fatbike that’s not fat?
We have known for a long time the appeal of a fatbike is the ability to take on everything and this now includes fast XC/Gravel.
The beauty of a fatty is the fact you can swap wheels to any size. Unlike your traditional mtb where you would need another bike, The fatbike can switch to gravel mode in less than a minute, just chuck in your skinny wheels.
Of course you will require fatbike hubs but the rest is all normal-ish. I say is as the range of tyres is massive now. The bike featured here is running 29×2.6 but you can chuck whatever you fancy in it.
29×2.6 Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s look at home and offer oodles of mud clearance.
This bike has just been put together for sale but shows what you can achieve without much planning.
1 x 11 SLX gearing, Deore disc brakes, Middleburn chainset – all built onto a Sarma Shaman Fatbike frame and forks, we then sat that on a pair of 29er wheels made up with Halo Vapour 35 stealth rims laced to a pair of Halo Fatbike hubs.
We didn’t go out of our way to build a super light bike but it’s come in at just over 24Ibs
This bike is available from Slam69 as is, or with fatbike wheels, and of course you can buy it with both wheelsets.
This build cost £2500. Add £620 for the additional fatbike wheels. (does not include tyres)
